What Is a Good SpamAssassin Score?

A good SpamAssassin score is under 5.0, with scores under 3.0 being excellent. Score interpretation: 0-3 (excellent - very low spam probability), 3-5 (good - low spam probability), 5-7 (moderate - may be filtered by some providers), 7+ (high - likely to be filtered as spam).

Aim for scores under 5.0 for optimal deliverability. Lower scores indicate better deliverability prospects and reduce the likelihood of spam filtering.

Test your emails with our SpamAssassin test tool to check scores and identify issues affecting your spam scores.

Score Interpretation

0-3: Excellent

Very low spam probability. Emails with scores in this range have excellent deliverability prospects and are unlikely to be filtered.

3-5: Good

Low spam probability. Emails with scores in this range have good deliverability prospects. This is the target range for most emails.

5-7: Moderate

Moderate spam probability. Emails with scores in this range may be filtered by some email providers. Address issues to improve scores.

7+: High

High spam probability. Emails with scores in this range are likely to be filtered as spam. Significant improvements are needed.

Target Scores

Optimal Target

Aim for scores under 5.0 for optimal deliverability. Scores under 3.0 are excellent and provide the best deliverability prospects.

Acceptable Range

Scores between 3.0 and 5.0 are acceptable for most email campaigns, though lower is always better.

Action Required

Scores above 5.0 require action to improve. Address identified issues to lower scores and improve deliverability.

Critical Scores

Scores above 7.0 are critical and require immediate attention. Emails with these scores are very likely to be filtered.

Achieving Good Scores

1. Implement Authentication

Ensure proper SPF, DKIM, DMARC authentication. Missing authentication significantly increases spam scores.

2. Remove Spam Triggers

Use our spam words checker to identify and remove problematic words and phrases.

3. Validate HTML

Fix HTML issues using our HTML validator. Invalid HTML increases spam scores.

4. Check Blacklist Status

Monitor your blacklist status. Being on blacklists significantly increases scores.

5. Follow Best Practices

Use clean lists, maintain good engagement, include plain-text versions, and follow email best practices.

6. Test Regularly

Test emails regularly with our SpamAssassin test to monitor and improve scores.

Monitoring Scores

Regular score monitoring helps maintain good deliverability:

1. Test Before Sending

Always test emails with SpamAssassin before sending campaigns to ensure scores are acceptable.

2. Track Score Trends

Monitor score trends over time to identify patterns and address issues proactively.

3. Fix Issues Promptly

Address issues identified in SpamAssassin reports to improve scores and deliverability.

4. Regular Testing

Make SpamAssassin testing a regular part of your email workflow to maintain optimal scores.
